Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is the free listing that shows up when people search for local businesses on Google or Google Maps. It includes your business name, address, phone number, hours, photos, reviews, and posts.
When someone searches "hair salon near me" in Perrysburg, Google shows the top 3 local listings โ called the "Local Pack" โ before any organic website results. Getting into that top 3 can mean dozens of new calls per month without spending a dollar on ads.
The 5 Things Most Businesses Get Wrong
1. They set it up once and never touch it again. Google rewards active profiles. Businesses that post regularly, respond to reviews, and add new photos consistently rank higher. A profile that hasn't been updated since 2022 is being outranked by competitors who are more active โ even if those competitors have fewer overall reviews.
2. They ignore reviews. 88% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations.
