Short answer: if your Facebook Marketplace listing isn't showing up, it's almost always one of four things. It's still in automated review, it tripped a Commerce Policy filter, your account has a Marketplace restriction on it, or the listing aged out and needs renewed. Check Your Listings and your Support Inbox first, because those two screens tell you which one you're dealing with in about thirty seconds.

I get asked this a lot by contractors, furniture shops, and used car guys around Toledo who move real inventory through Marketplace. They post a truck or a dining set, they see it on their own screen, and then nobody messages them. So they assume it's broken. Usually it isn't broken, it's just invisible to everyone but them, and there's a reason.

Why can I see my listing but nobody else can?

This is the one that confuses people most. Your own listing always renders for you. That's just how the app works. Seeing it on your phone proves nothing about whether a buyer three towns over can find it.

Every Marketplace listing goes through an automated review before it goes public. Facebook checks the photos, the title, the description, the price, and the category against its Commerce Policies. Most of the time that takes a few minutes. Sometimes it takes up to a day. While it's sitting in review, you can still get messages, but the listing isn't out in search yet.

The fastest way to check is open Marketplace, tap your profile icon, and go to Your Listings. If it says Pending or In Review, you're not broken, you're in line. If it says nothing unusual and it's been more than 24 hours, something else is going on.

The other easy test is to have someone else look. Not your wife on the same wifi, someone actually outside your household. Send them the listing link and ask if it loads.

Did my listing get rejected without me noticing?

This happens constantly and almost nobody checks the right place. Go to Settings, then Support Inbox. That's where Facebook drops removal notices, policy warnings, and the reason your listing got pulled. If your listing vanished and you never saw a notification, the notice is probably sitting in there unread.

A rejection usually comes with a reason and a Request Review button. Use it. The appeal is quick and a decent share of automated rejections get reversed by a human, especially when the item was fine and a filter just misread it.

The stuff that trips filters most often for local businesses is pretty predictable. Brand names in the title on anything that could look counterfeit. Health or medical claims on a product. Anything in a restricted category, which covers more than people expect. Service listings written like ads instead of items. And prices set to $1 or $0 to bait clicks, which Facebook reads as a pricing trick.

If your whole page keeps getting flagged instead of just one listing, that's a bigger pattern and I wrote about what to do when Facebook says your post violates community standards.

Is my account restricted from Marketplace?

Account level restrictions kill every listing at once, which is how you tell them apart from a single rejection. If nothing you post shows up, stop troubleshooting the listing and look at the account.

A few things cause this. Repeated Commerce Policy strikes stack up and eventually limit Marketplace access. A brand new profile with no history gets less trust and sometimes gets held back. Facebook occasionally asks for age verification and quietly limits selling until you clear it. And if you're posting from a secondary or business profile instead of your main personal profile, Marketplace access works differently than people assume.

You'll usually find the restriction spelled out in the Support Inbox or in Account Status. If it's there, the appeal path is the same. Request review, wait, and stop posting more listings in the meantime because that only adds to the problem.

Does my listing expire?

Yes, and this is the boring answer that solves a ton of "it disappeared" complaints. Marketplace listings run about 7 days before they drop out of active search. The listing doesn't get deleted, it just stops being shown around.

After that seven day mark you'll typically get a Renew option, and you can use it several times. Renewing keeps your views and saves and gives the listing a small visibility bump. Relisting from scratch, meaning delete it and post it fresh, tends to get more exposure because the system treats it as new inventory, but you lose the history on the old one.

Here's the part worth doing either way. Change something when you renew or relist. New lead photo, different price, rewritten first line. Reposting the exact same listing that already failed just gets you the same result again, and you learn nothing.

What should I do first, in order?

Run it in this order and you'll find the problem fast.

1: Open Your Listings and read the status on the item. 2: Check Settings, Support Inbox for a removal notice or restriction. 3: Have someone outside your house search for it. 4: If it's been 24 hours and it's still pending with no notice, edit the listing, change the photo and the title wording, and save. That re-triggers review. 5: If everything you post is invisible, treat it as an account issue, not a listing issue, and appeal through Account Status.

And one thing that isn't on that list but matters. Do not delete and repost the same item ten times in a day trying to force it. That reads as spam behavior and it's a good way to turn a one listing problem into an account problem.

Should my business be relying on Marketplace at all?

Marketplace is a real channel for the right business. Furniture, equipment, vehicles, anything used or physical moves well there and the traffic is free. I've watched local shops pull steady leads out of it.

But you're renting that ground. Facebook decides what shows, changes the rules without telling you, and can shut you off with an automated flag you never see. Any business where Marketplace is the whole lead engine is one policy sweep away from a very bad month.

So use it, just don't let it be the only thing. Your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and your own site are ground you actually own. If you want help getting those working alongside the social side, that's most of what our social media and local marketing services handle for businesses around Northwest Ohio. And if people can't find your actual page either, start with why your Facebook page isn't showing up in search.

Common questions

Why can I see my Facebook Marketplace listing but no one else can?
Your own listing always renders for you, so seeing it proves nothing. It is usually still in automated review, which normally clears in a few minutes but can take up to 24 hours. Check Your Listings for a Pending or In Review status, and ask someone outside your household to search for it.

How long does a Facebook Marketplace listing stay in review?
Most listings clear automated review within minutes, and almost all of them within 24 hours. If yours is still pending after a full day, something in the photo, title, description, price, or category likely tripped a filter. Edit the listing to re-trigger review.

How do I know if my Marketplace listing was rejected?
Go to Settings, then Support Inbox. That is where Facebook posts removal notices, the reason, and the Request Review button. Most people never check it, which is why a rejected listing feels like it vanished for no reason.

Do Facebook Marketplace listings expire?
Yes. Listings run about 7 days before they drop out of active search. After that you usually get a Renew option you can use several times. Renewing keeps your views and saves, while deleting and relisting gets more fresh exposure but loses the history.

Why are none of my Marketplace listings showing up?
When every listing is invisible instead of just one, treat it as an account problem rather than a listing problem. Repeated policy strikes, a brand new profile, pending age verification, or posting from a secondary profile can all limit Marketplace access. Check Account Status and appeal there.
